On Saturday, May 19, three homes located in Russell Lands’ The Ridge neighborhood will open to the public – and all for one very noble cause.

If you know where to look on spring and summer nights – and you’re a bit lucky – you could catch a glimpse of a large, pale green luna moth flying across the Lake Martin landscape.

It’s a rare accomplishment for a human to be honored with a resolution from the Senate of Alabama. It’s even more rare for a dog to receive that very honor. But then again, Lake Martin’s Oso the surfing dog is not your ordinary canine.

Five-piece southern rock band Blackberry Smoke will return to The Amp this month to headline Russell Lands On Lake Martin’s annual Memorial Day Concert. The event – named the Southern Music Festival this year – is scheduled for Sunday, May 27. Tickets are $20 in advance, and $30 if purchased at the door.

Oskar Albertson grew up in the mountains of Colorado. “I am the youngest of seven children, and the only redhead, so I had to be tough,” she says. Oskar played sports in high school, and says that traveling is one of her favorite things to do. She has been married for 18 years and has two children. She is also one of the owners (and the namesake) of one of Lake Martin’s most popular restaurants: Oskar’s Cafe.

May is a great month of the year on Lake Martin. The lake is full. The boats that have been tucked away for the winter are being summerized. The air is getting to the point of being hot and the water temperature makes its way from really cold to refreshing when you get in from a hot day out on the boat. It’s the month that really starts the season to me.

When you get in your boat this summer and take out across the beautiful waters of Lake Martin, will you ever consider that there may be underwater hazards that might cause you danger? Probably not! You have faith that the lake is safe and that underwater hazards have been identified and marked.
