Alabama Power to Donate Fire Tower to CRATA

The effort to restore the historic Smith Mountain fire tower and turn one of the most beautiful landscapes on Lake Martin into a one-of-a-kind public hiking park took a big step forward in late July when Alabama Power Co. agreed to deed the fire tower and 10 acres of mountaintop land to the Cherokee Ridge Alpine Trail Association (CRATA).
