First, I’ll touch on the current hot-button issue of the Martin Dam re-licensing process. Criticism of the process has appeared recently, some factual and some less so.

Lake Martin. Through the eyes of a child, it means fun summer days spent exploring, fishing with grandpa, or taking that first big boat ride. For a teenager, it’s waterlogged weekend trips “catching rays” at Chimney Rock. For adults, it’s a temporary refuge from the stress of the “real world.” For the retired couple, it’s a place to finally relax.

The proposed rule curve change is possibly the most complex issue being addressed in the relicensing process, not only because of the complicated science involved with the studies but also because of the intense stakeholder interest.

On a small point on the main run of the Tallapoosa River, about halfway between Camp ASCCA and Martin Dam, sits a tiny, two-room cabin. The Hut is only about 20 by 24 feet.
